Queue, Send, Trigger

Trigger, Send, and Queue sound similar, but they do different things. This page separates their responsibilities clearly.

Difference

FunctionMeaning
TriggerPlays the active template only inside the editor. Good for animation, timing, and tokens.
SendSends the active template as a test alert to the queue. Good for OBS testing.
Test Send on ruleSends a test through a specific rule from Alerts.
QueueOrder of alerts that the OBS overlay shows one after another.

Trigger

Trigger uses Token Settings in the Alert Editor and plays the animation directly on the canvas.

Use Trigger when you want to check:

  • whether text sits correctly
  • whether tokens look right visually
  • whether start and end animation timing works
  • whether duration leaves enough visible time

Trigger is not an OBS test. Use Send for that.

Send

Send puts the current template into the queue. This lets you check whether the template actually reaches the OBS overlay.

Use Send when you want to check:

  • whether the queue accepts the alert
  • whether OBS renders the template
  • whether duration and animations work in the overlay
  • whether the overlay becomes empty again afterward

Test Send on Rules

On the Alerts page, each rule has Test Send. This test uses the rule and its template.

Use this test when you want to check:

  • whether the right rule uses the right template
  • whether active rules are assigned cleanly
  • whether the queue accepts the rule test
  • whether OBS shows the alert through the real rule pipeline

Queue Flow

The queue works sequentially.

  1. Trigger or payment creates an alert job.
  2. Job lands in the queue.
  3. The overlay loads the first job.
  4. Template is shown for Global Duration.
  5. Alert disappears.
  6. Queue marks the job as finished.
  7. The next job can start.

When the queue is empty, the OBS overlay shows no content. That is correct.

Real payments run through Stripe. When Stripe confirms a payment as paid, an alert can be created from it. The rules from Alerts apply.

The rule decides:

  • which template is used
  • whether the amount matches
  • whether a goal is affected
  • whether the trigger is active

Clear Queue

If too many tests are in the queue or a test is no longer relevant, you can clear the queue from the queue display.

Use Clear Queue deliberately: active and waiting alert jobs are removed.
